I Want That Nut

STREAM connection: Find an acorn and a (small) fake chipmunk and/or mouse. Have students use makerspace materials to get the chipmunk or mouse to the nut without the students using their hands (example: a pulley system or rolling cart).

How to Find a Friend

STREAM connection: Using tech toys such as Spheros, Dash robots, Code-a-Pillars, etc., designate one as the squirrel and one as the rabbit. Recreate the story with a partner by programming the toys to move to certain areas (designated as places from the story). 

Another option is to draw a map similar to the one in the back of the book and use Ozobots as the characters, moving from place to place. 

STREAM connection: Create a map like the one in the back of the book and the two characters using makerspace materials. Retell the story.

Hattie and Hudson

STREAM connection: Explain to students that Hudson is similar to the Loch Ness monster. Have students research the Loch Ness Monster using articles such as the one found on Kiddle. Lead a discussion about the similarities to Hudson in the story as well as introducing the idea of folklore.
